GREAT BEER QUEST AWARD WINNER: BEST STOUT
The last of our best of style awards, this is the big boy. Many of the most bold, bruising, flavor-packed beers we’ve had all year were stouts, including three perfect scores. Every single nominee has a score of 9.5 higher and belongs in our top 10 beers of the year list. Stouts are known for huge coffee and dark chocolate flavor, often infused with vanilla, honey, and bourbon from barrel aging. It’s my favorite style of beer, and the excellent nominees reflect why. Without further await, the nominees for best stout are…
-Founders KBS
-Mikkeller Black Tie
-Great Divide Yeti
-Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel
-Oskar Blues Ten FIDY
-Ale Smith Speedway Stout
And the Gold medal winner is…
FOUNDERS KBS!
Silver: Ale Smith Speedway Stout
Bronze: Mikkeller Black Tie
Only two awards left to give out… best overall beer, and best brewery.

well deserved!

  7. barleywhine said: Any reason you tasted the bourbon barrel version of Founders stout, but not the BA version of Yeti, Fidy, etc? I love KBS and am not certain it could be beat, but it might be better competition if the stouts all had the advantage of barrel aging :)

KBS, CBS, or just plain BS. If you haven’t already, you should really really try Founder’s Breakfast Stouts.
